Bienvenido

Colonial architecture, cobblestone streets, Holy Week processions, and the beautiful Santa Prisca cathedral; all of these things are facets of my hometown of Taxco, Guerrero, Mexico.

But the thing that makes Taxco world renowned is its silver and those individuals that have the skill, talent and vision to create beautiful works of art out of it.

The majority of the shops that line the main road into Taxco and the shops that surround the Zócalo, the main square in the heart of Taxco, are dedicated to selling these works of art by many of the very talented artisans that live and work here.

Many of these shops are family owned and operated businesses that began a couple of generations ago, in the early 1930’s, with the skills being passed down from family member to family member.

This web site is an extension of my family's workshops and store, Taller Jaimes and Platería Jaimes, onto the internet.  Please come in and explore this site.  Our desire is to not only show you all of the attractive creations of my family and our friends and neighbors, but also, in the tradition and spirit of my mother, to teach you a little about what makes Taxco, the families that live here and our Mexican Culture, so special.

The image above was taken from a postcard that was very popular in the last couple of decades.  It actually depicts the façade and plazuela in front of Platería Jaimes, our store. Even though we have other workshops, it is where my father still prefers to do most of his work.  You can usually find him  at his benches in the rear where visitors can come and watch him work.
